Ljubljana most certainly
ranks among the smaller European capitals, but we are
convinced that many bigger cities could be envious of
all that, what Ljubljana has. Ljubljana did not become a
capital overnight, it prepared for this for centuries.
In short, if smallness is its only deficiency, let it be
so, as long as it can.
Medieval city mainly built
in baroque manner is squeezed between the hill with
castle and the Ljubljanica river. The banks of the river
and many other important buildings where designed by
local architect Jože Plečnik. When strolling through the
streets of Ljubljana you can see reminiscent of Roman
settlement Emona, medieval old town, works of Plecnik
and modern buildings blended with parks and squares. |
